Cymbopogon, also known as lemongrass, barbed wire grass, silky heads, Cochin grass, Malabar grass, oily heads, citronella grass or fever grass, is a genus of Asian, African, Australian, and tropical island plants in the grass family.Some species (particularly Cymbopogon citratus) are commonly cultivated as culinary and medicinal herbs because of their scent, resembling that of lemons (Citrus limon)Prepare the container with a proper drainage hole and potting soil.Transplant the lemongrass in a prepared container. You can plant 2-3 stalks for the six-inch container. Then, later on, reporting it to five gallon or larger container as lemon grass can spread up to 2 feet wide and form a big clump of grass. You can also transplant it on the ground outside after the last frost once it hardens off properly. Lemongrass needs a warm sunny spot for proper growth. Fertilize it with an all-purpose balance fertilizer or organic fish/kelp emulsion is an excellent choice. When the temperature gets cold, dig up the lemongrass and report it into a container and get it ready to grow indoors.
